PARENTS:  Jane “Jenny” Asher, first wife and Lilburn “Red Lil” Woods.
BROTHER:  Theophilus Asher Woods, Union Army Civil War Soldier, who married Juda Cornett, daughter of Elizabeth Holbrook and John Cornett, Union Army Civil War Soldier.
PARENTS DIVORCED IN 1846:  The two brothers occupied different households.  James lived with his father and his second wife, Mahala Sizemore.  Theophilus lived with his mother and her parents.  Jane discarded her married name and embraced her maiden name.  When Theophilus joined the Union Army, he used Asher as his surname.   Therefore, Asher was carved on his military headstone and his wife’s headstone.

HOMETOWN:  Manchester, Clay County, Kentucky, USA.
OTHER RESIDENCE:  Cornettsville and Viper in Perry County, Kentucky.
DATE OF BIRTH:  27 April 1844 in Kentucky.
PARENTS:  Jane “Jenny” Asher and Lilburn “Red Lil” Woods, who divorced in 1846.  Jane reverted to her maiden name, Asher.  When Theophilus joined the Union Army, he enlisted under the surname of Asher.  Therefore, his military headstone was required to have the last name of Asher, which was on his Civil War military papers.
BROTHER:  James Woods (1841-1864), a Corporal in the 7th Regiment Kentucky Infantry, Company E, Union Army, who Died of Gunshot Wounds inflicted in Battle in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the American Civil War.
GRANDPARENTS:  Sarah “Sally” Dorton and Reuben Woods, who served in the War of 1812 in the 13th Regiment, Kentucky Militia, commanded by William Dudley.
GREAT-GREAT-GRANDPARENTS:  Laodicea Robinson and Moses Dorton, an American Revolutionary War Soldier, who fought in the Battle of King’s Mountain.
